The Sunday Times has unveiled its ‘100 Best Companies to Work For’ list, and it features ten law firms.
It’s a stronger performance overall from the profession compared to last year, when only eight law firms made the list. But one thing hasn’t changed since 2016: it’s Stephens Scown which can really bask in glory. Despite the Devon and Cornwall-based litigation specialist dropping four places on its 2016 rating, it has held onto its title as the highest ranking legal firm on the list. It came in 16th place overall.
Next up is London outfit Kingsley Napley, which repeated its 2016 23rd position performance. Just below is Mishcon de Reya, of Brexit legal challenge fame, which came in in 24th.
Climbing the ranks of the Sunday Times’ Best employers list this year is Bath firm Royds Withy King. Now in 30th place, the outfit only managed 45th last year. Even more impressive is Freeths. The Mayfair-based real estate specialists failed to make the top 100 last year; now it features in a respectable 50th position.
Shining at the bottom half of the table are Stewarts Law and Mills & Reeve, which came in 58th and 60th respective. Then there’s comeback kid Baker McKenzie. Knocked off the list in 2016, the City giant is back, minus an ampersand, in 66th place. Lewis Silkin made 79th, while personal injury outfit Fletchers rounded off the top ten law firms at number 85.
Big names to make the Sunday Times’ Best employers list alongside the top ten legal firms include Sky Betting & Gambling, Pure Gym, Build-A-Bear and Toyota. Christchurch communications company 4Com was named the best company to work for in the country across all sectors, despite not appearing on the list in 2016.
