It is easy to become alienated by LinkedIn as you become inundated with connection requests. LinkedIn is a fantastic tool for growing businesses and your own professional & personal branding. So, before you decline that connection request from a Recruiter or other professional, consider accepting it for the following reasons:
Connecting with recruiters can give you easy-access to the latest industry-related news that may be challenging to find elsewhere. Staying commercially aware is incredibly important, especially in the legal industry, so staying up to date is invaluable. Accepting that connection request will allow any industry news shared or liked by that recruiter to come up straight on your news feed, all whilst expanding your LinkedIn network!
There is absolutely nothing wrong with staying informed about opportunities within the market and options for career development – in fact it is beneficial! By ignoring connection requests, you could be missing out on golden opportunities – even if you are comfortable in your current position. Ignoring opportunities for personal & professional growth can often be counter-intuitive – so accept that request and get informed before closing yourself off from new opportunities.
Believe it or not, recruiters are industry experts. Here at KC Partners, we speak to Associates & Partners on a daily basis, forming strong relationships with our clients and allowing us to have valuable insights into the market. We know all of the latest market trends, insights, and share the latest industry news regularly – making us valuable LinkedIn connections to have!
One of the biggest fears you may have about connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn, is that your employer may see. Well, have no fear! LinkedIn has a simple and common privacy setting that you can change, which allows you to hide your connections from view. Therefore, in the event that your employer or colleagues do try to monitor your LinkedIn connections, they will not be able to do so.
Above all, simply being connected with someone on LinkedIn doesn’t mean you intend to make a move. You wouldn’t think twice about connecting with a Partner at a different firm. Connecting with Partners does not mean you are jumping ship. The same goes for connecting with recruiters. There is no stigma surrounding connecting with a recruiter on LinkedIn. Being connected with a variety of professionals across all industries can be beneficial when building your own brand and achieving personal goals.
Lastly, don’t forget that you can always disconnect with someone or unfollow them if you get tired of their content!
