White collar crime is booming once again. Times have changed over the last decade since the 2008 financial crisis, and the demand for white collar crime specialists has escalated rapidly.
Lawyers from New York law firms are looking for moves to Mid Atlantic or UK firms in order to achieve a work life balance whilst retaining high-quality, challenging work.
Most recently, Clifford Chance investigations director Zoe Osbourne joined the Mid Atlantic firm Steptoe & Johnson. This follows the departure of star white collar litigator Judith Seddon, who moved to Ropes & Gray last year.
Womble Bond Dickinson strengthened their white-collar crime team earlier this year, with the appointment of Audrey Koh as a partner in the firm’s London office. Managing Partner at Womble Bond Dickinson, Johnathon Blair stated:
“We’re delighted to welcome Audrey to the firm and to our fast-growing London office. Her track record advising clients in the UK, US and across other jurisdictions on white collar crime, particularly in anti-bribery and anti-corruption, will enhance our offering in a number of our key sectors and her specialism will provide added value to our clients.”
Last year, head of corporate crime at Eversheds Sutherland, Neil Blundell joined Macfarlanes as spearhead of the firm’s new corporate crime and investigations practice. Blundell’s recent work at Macfarlanes includes acting for the former Chairman of JJB Sports in a successful SFO prosecution of £100m for misleading the market and acting on an investigation that led to the first ever EBRD civil penalty for a bribery related issue.
Addleshaw Goddard bolstered its white-collar practice in 2018, appointing David Pygott, Counsel at CMS, as Partner in its Global Investigations team. Expanding the team further, Addleshaw’s also hired former Scottish FA Compliance Officer Tony McGlennan.
White collar crime is “white hot” and demand for white collar lawyers is growing more than ever.
